A doomed epic​, The Conqueror, is  DOWNWIND's origin story. Filmed in Utah in 1956 The Conqueror was a Hollywood blockbuster produced by Howard Hughes with John Wayne as Genghis Khan. A year prior to shooting a nuclear weapons test called Harry was detonated at the Nevada Test Site 133 miles from the set. Dirty Harry dusted the area with the highest levels of radioactive fallout ever recorded in U.S. history. Nearly half the cast, including the Duke, later contracted cancer. We dive deeper here.
